So proper setup can take a little care and tweaking, but the end result is a software with great performance and a lot of neat features. The various settings can change the character of sound, sometimes dramatically. To me, the PM software has a slightly rolled off, forgiving character. So if you are utilizing the active crossover functionality and want to listen to Spotify this software makes that easy. It interfaces easily and automatically with iTunes and has a slew of features that make it easy to do room correction and active crossovers all from a single piece of software.īoth Pure Music and Pure Vinyl have a neat pass-through feature that allows you to run other audio applications through the Pure Music DSP. The software sounds great, has a very analog sound, but is slightly lower resolution than the other OSX offerings. They both sound the same, but Pure Vinyl has the added feature of vinyl digitization and RIAA filters. This can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Pure Vinyl and its little brother Pure Music are the most versatile pieces of software in the OSX arsenal. Another downside, depending on how you look at it, is that new versions of foobar are constantly being released. That means a lot of time poking around forums and support pages, which luckily, there are a lot of. You may have to do some digging and experimentation to get things setup the way you want. In short, you can totally geek out with foobar and customize nearly everything, including the GUI and backend.Īt the same time, all that customization and community support comes with a downside. Some of the available components are ASIO and WASAPI support, a really cool ABX comparator that “Performs a double-blind listening test between two tracks”, and a DSDIFF decoder. By opening up development to the online community, the possibilities are basically endless. Second, they offer up an SDK (software development kit), which allows others to build components to expand the functionality of foobar. First off, it’s free, which is hard to beat. Overall, great file management!įoobar2000 is my ( Cliff here, not Ryan) favorite audiophile playback software. ASIO and WASAPI, plus other plugins available.įile Management: Built-in, easy to organize and personalize. If you are using Mac, i would highly recommend Audirvana Plus.Audio Capabilities: FLAC, Vorbis, AIFF, + more with additional components. Unlike EQ, the results seem to be more natural and coherent. Personally, i find this very exiting to play around with the settings. These are some of the components that i thought we could never change in a system without change in hardware. There is a difference in staging, airiness / smoothness based on the tuning.I would like to point to a particular post for reference. >Ěn interesting thread in computer audiophile There is quite a bit of reading involved. There is no EQ involved (which i don't prefer). I started playing around with only today, and already noticed percievable difference. You can read more about it in the above link. The Parameters are steepness, Filter max length, Cut off freq, Anti aliasing, Pre-ringing. What i find more interesting in Audirvana Plus is the advanced filter options for Sample Rate conversion with Izotope 64 bit SRC. Now, i am using Audirvana Plus for about 2 weeks now. But, most of the online reviews suggested Audirvana Plus and Pure Music over JRiver. I was seriously considering upgrading my JRiver licence for Mac as well. For portable use, i was looking for a suitable software for my Mac. I have been using JRiver on my Windows 7 PC for quite sometime now.
